I think we can safely say that the honeymoon is well and truly over. King Ramos is no longer an incongruous, swarthy figure sitting in seat where our lovable Dutch mate used to sit. It’s no longer a momentary jolt to see Ramos, Gus and the other one egging on the team from the sidelines and it has to be admitted that there have been very encouraging signs in terms of performances. Wham away we would have lost under Jol but Ramos had us fighting back those mockney dogs and we should have gone on and won the game if Defoe knew how to take a penalty. The following game, Aalborg at home, Ramos displayed his tactical nouce and dragged Spurs kicking and screaming to a victory when all seemed lost at half time. Skipping past the Birmingham result (sunk by another wonder goal) we trashed a previously undefeated at Eastlands Man Citeh and then pulled of a stunning result and performance against Portsmouth away. It’s only now things have tailed off but we were always going to lose to the vermin (or any other ‘top four’ team) and anyway, we had the destruction of Fulham to ease the pain.
It is at this point that things get a little weird. First there was the Reading league game. As they say, a great game for the neutrals alas a shite game for our defence. Four goals shipped against mid-table fodder is never good despite our forwards papering over the cracks with some mouth watering displays. Where do you go with a result like that? Did we just beat them with sheer bombardment or was it two poor teams scrapping like US sailors in a Wan Chai boozer? Would Manchester United or the vermin ship 6 goals in a game?
Then there was Villa away. Spurs were appalling from the first minute until the very last and the whole affair was most unlike the previous matches where at least Tottenham showed the will if not the ability to do anything of any note. Then there was Reading, fast becoming our new Wimbledon, proving to be a pain in the arse and take advantage of our shite defence.
So where does all this lead us? Well the last three matches has had a compound effect on some and they point the way to death, doom, destruction of mankind and a relegation scrap. This is the beginning of the end. My own opinion is that the last three games have to be put into context of our previous games and there we had some great results. At one point we were beaten once in eight games I think. January is a pivotal month for us and come the end of it we can end up with nothing (likely) or we could have dumped both the vermin and Man U out of the cups. Realistically we will still be in Europe come the end of the month and have only safety to play for in the league. Is this acceptable considering how well we were progressing in previous season? Of course not but my previous nonchalance with our team during Jol Gate has now been replaced with a belief that things are heading in the right direction. We have a manger that knows his onions, Gus who, despite my initial reservations, has done very well and says the right things. Of course the storm clouds gather every time Berbatov is mentioned but this should be solved by the close of this transfer window and Levy’s wallet will be 25M heavier.
In all my time as a Tottenham supporter I have only known us to lurch form crisis to crisis but we always, somehow, end up survivng until next seasons ‘transitional season’ where the same old shite replays itself. Only in recent times have we had it so good but now, the morning after, we awake and we are just another team fighting to be the best of the rest and at the moment, considering the Jol/Ramos debacle, I am happy enough with that. In Ramos I believe and despite this wobble we should get behind our team at least until the end of the month as you never know especially with Spurs…

We love you Juande!

postie1 on January 12, 2008 at 3:11 pmLove the site, the 5-1 picture is a gem.
We run our blog and have a certain interest in the mighty Spurs, so it’s a real pleasure to find a site like this from Hong Kong.
By the way, is there any way of buying one of these SIKH shirts?
After the Manyoo game it really will be serious times ahead next season. Shame about Bale though.
Keep up the good work.
