Goodbye Hong Kong

Daniel on May 31, 2008 | 1 Comment

It was all too good to last. After much soul searching we have decided to up sticks and move to Shanghai. This has been a very, very difficult decision for many reasons mostly based around the fact that Spurs in Hong Kong has been such a huge success but I have to progress my career and in Hong Kong (for whatever reason) this is not happening. I would stay in the big Lychee forever - the life, the people, the environment (pollution aside) is now very familiar to me and it is my home. All is perfect if only I didn’t have to work but, alas, I have to and the companies I have encountered here are not able to offer me the things I need right now.

I Love You Spurs

Juande Ramos

I think we can safely say that the honeymoon is well and truly over. King Ramos is no longer an incongruous, swarthy figure sitting in seat where our lovable Dutch mate used to sit. It’s no longer a momentary jolt to see Ramos, Gus and the other one egging on the team from the sidelines and it has to be admitted that there have been very encouraging signs in terms of performances. Wham away we would have lost under Jol but Ramos had us fighting back those mockney dogs and we should have gone on and won the game if Defoe knew how to take a penalty. The following game, Aalborg at home, Ramos displayed his tactical nouce and dragged Spurs kicking and screaming to a victory when all seemed lost at half time. Skipping past the Birmingham result (sunk by another wonder goal) we trashed a previously undefeated at Eastlands Man Citeh and then pulled of a stunning result and performance against Portsmouth away. It’s only now things have tailed off but we were always going to lose to the vermin (or any other ‘top four’ team) and anyway, we had the destruction of Fulham to ease the pain.

Levy fiddles while Tottenham burns

Daniel on November 5, 2007 | 4 Comments

I have that sick feeling again. Over the last two years we have been in a dreamland by comparison with todays complete and utter rubbish some have the nerve to call a football team. After a couple of seasons of staring at only the top half of the league table, I now find myself squinting at the wrong end with Tottenham Hotspur FC in dire, dire straits. This season has been nothing short of a catastrophe purely of THFC PLC’s making. Drunk on success and greed and not unlike a modern day Greek Tragedy our self appointed leaders are guiding us towards oblivion as the behemoth that was THFC disintegrates into a disparate bunch of separate entities hiding under the guise of a football club.

Middlesbrough 1 Spurs 1

Middlesbrough right-back Luke Young fired home from 25 yards to deny his former club Tottenham a win in their first league match under Juande Ramos. The hosts started brightly, with Gary O’Neill going close, but Darren Bent marked a rare start with a fine run and finish from range to put Spurs ahead.

Spurs 2 Blackpool 0

Daniel on November 1, 2007 | Comment?

Goals from Robbie Keane and Pascal Chimbonda ensured Juande Ramos avoided a Carling Cup shock in his first game in charge at Tottenham. Keane lifted the ball over Blackpool keeper Paul Rachubka from Dimitar Berbatov’s flick-on after 18 minutes.

Blackpool striker Gary Taylor-Fletcher headed onto the bar after the break and then had a shot saved by Paul Robinson. But Chimbonda headed in Steed Malbranque’s corner to seal Spurs’ quarter-final place on 57 minutes.
